A few months ago, we contacted a gentleman with a not-so-unique problem. This man is building a house where the driveway is steep and located on the north side of the house. As a result, he will experience prolonged periods of accumulated snow and ice, since the northern exposure will keep it from melting in a timely manner. Combine this with the steep grade of the driveway and you have a recipe for disaster.

When we explained the Pave Guard system to the home owner – how we can eliminate the formation of snow and ice on his driveway, needless to say he was all ears. When we added the fact that we can also lower his hot water bill (natural gas bill) by using solar thermal technology to accomplish both tasks, we had his undivided attention.

Last night, we met with the homeowners association where the man’s house is being built, in order to explain the Pave Guard system and solar thermal technology. After several minutes of questions, answers and debate over the issues involved, the homeowners association approved the installation of the solar thermal technology and the Pave Guard system in the man’s driveway and on his roof. We will be installing the Pave Guard system in the next few weeks so he can enjoy an uneventful winter.

This approval by the homeowners association is important because most HOA’s do not have solar technology as an approved part of their by-laws. As more and more HOA’s investigate the current nature and benefits of renewable energy and the Pave Guard system, more and more homeowners will be able to enjoy the benefits that come with it.

Education about renewable energy is vital to the its propagation in the coming years. The more people learn and understand the benefits and cost-effectiveness of the Pave Guard system and solar technology, the more we will be able to lower our dependence upon fossil fuels, like heating oil, natural gas and coal. Education is an amazing and important thing, for all of us.
